Burn The Shivers

Last week I've posted the album The Wind Blows Witches From The Sky by the band Wallrus. This is their final one called Burn The Shivers. This album is a perfect continuation on The Wind Blows Witches From The Sky.
Burn The Shivers is an album full of great Blues driven Stoner Rock. There is even more room for the harmonica. This album is slightly more Blues oriented than it's predecessor. But the Kyuss and QOTSA influences are certainly still present in their sound. The album Burn The Shivers is an improvement over their previous work. The vocals are even better, as far as possible. This guy has really an impressive voice. Damn, that this band has stopped is a real pity. Enjoy!

1999 Is the year a band was formed in Rotterdam (the Netherlands) and they decided to hit the stages real quick. The name that would appear on the bills is Wallrus and stoner is their game. That same year they released their debut EP followed by two albums and in September 2007 their latest ones come out. "Burn The Shivers" contain 12 tracks and a videoclip of the song "High Plains Drifter".
The songs are driven by heavy sludgy guitars with catchy riffs and with leads. A nice role is there for the harmonica that vocalist Rob uses in the songs, it gives it a bluesy edge. But he has also a good voice that can do clean soft part but also raw whiskey shouting.
With "Burn The Shivers" the band delivers a nice album that is not Metal but a nice one for your car or in a saloon. And as a bonus you get the video with the clip, making of the clip and a picture gallery.
A catch album for those you are into Stoner Rock 'n' Roll.

The Wind Blows Witches From The Sky

Wallrus was a band from Rotterdam, Holland. This Stoner band is clearly influenced by bands like Kuyss, QOTSA. But there is more in the music of Wallrus and that is the Blues component. This is mainly carried out by the singer and his harmonica, so that it also makes me think of Five Horse Johnson, for example.
The Wind Blows Witches From The Sky is an great album with excellent songs. This album is the first full-length album by Wallrus. After this one they've released one more album called Burn The Shivers in 2007. Wallrus has disbanded in 2010. And that is too bad, because this band was quite awesome. Enjoy!

"Wallrus are knee-deep in classic rock stylings with a strong hold of modern stoner rock in the vein of Hermano and Unida."
(From Allthatisheavy)

"The sound from Rietdijk’s throat suggests a lifetime of drinking whiskey and fits in perfectly with the heavy stoner rock of Wallrus. But from the first note on it becomes clear that we are not dealing with just your typical stoner band here. When harmonica and slide guitars are put to work it is all about the blues. And there’s no denying sweet reminiscences of bands like Taste, Cream, or Masters of Reality."
(From Aloha)

"The pounding drums of Joeri Rook together with the stone-hard riffs of Conrad Freling, the growling bass of Paul van Schaik, and the long cries of Rob Rietdijk will force a river into a deluge. Reminiscent of Led Zeppelin’s debut album."
(From Rotterdams Dagblad)

G.O.R.M.A.

3 Mexicans From Gorma are not exactly from Mexico. This is a band from Verona, Italy. This trio plays Stoner Rock with Southern, Hard Rock and Blues influences. This Trio has released their debut album G.O.R.M.A. at Go Down Records.
This album is a bit of a strange one; Among the great Stoner tracks there are also some strange intros and intermezzos. But nevertheless it is a fine album, because the songs are really great.
According to their Facebook page, 3 Mexicans From Gorma is inspired by the following bands: Foo Fighters, Kyuss, Queens Of The Stone Age, Orange Goblin and Fu Manchu.
Beside the Stoner Rock, there are also some Mexican acoustic elements present in their sound. All with all a pretty decent album. Enjoy!

The Three Mexicans from Gorma formed in 2007; every member comes from a different musical experiences.
The new trio south stoner / space rock was created to revive the nostalgics of the 80s and 90s robust, smoked, heavy and hungry sound, remembering the glorious American stoner rock founders.
Their 12 tracks, enclose a comic concept book of pure invention, which will take you to a place forgotten by God, a place forgotten by all, the city of Gorma (acronym of the members of the band).
Gorma is a ghost town, strange and decadent, lost in the Mexican desert, a town reflecting the destruction, greed, madness, cruelty, evil and envy, all wickedness still present in today's world.
The protagonist, called DESOLETED MAN (an old and dirty loner cowboy), after leaving and have forgotten the madness of everyday’slife around him, escapes, and reaches the city Gorma, just by chance, riding his old horse Jekyll.
Closer and closer to evil-land, the old cowboy is captured by a series of events that trap him inside Gorma for eternity ... the significance of the city is nothing but the door to damnation. THE OLD COWBOY MAN, will have to fight against the Gorma’s evil, now surrounded by blood and delirium, trying to earn eternal peace ...
The Mexicans will take on stages a Mexican show and a story made up by a soundtrack inspired by the powerful and massive best pages of Queen Of The Stone Age and Kyuss, using the best experience gathered in previous projects (Spingigonzales - rock, Goro - deathmetal) not only playing, but telling a story like in the best take of Rodriguez.
In October they released their very first self-produced album, edited by GO DOWN RECORDS of Treviso.

No Na Na Na

The Shoes were in the sixties a Dutch Beat band with the worldwide hit classic Na Na Na.
Now there's a band with the same name from Forli, Italy. The Shoes is a trio that plays a combination of (70's) Hard Rock, Psychedelic and Blues. Their self-titled debut album is another excellent release by Go Down Records.
The album kicks off with the awesome track Need To Show It. This song sets the tone of what is coming. It is great music with Rock 'n' Roll attitude. Their music includes catchy guitar riffs, a groovy and energetic rhythm section and some good vocals.
Thereby is there also room for some great freak out experiment parts in their songs and even some nice and easy acoustical parts.
The Shoes has for sure presented an impressive piece of work with this album! Enjoy!

The story of The Shoes begins back in May 2005. Guitarist and singer Elio Di Menza wanted to form up a trio which was to follow in Cream and Jimi Hendrix Experience’s footsteps. Together with bass player Pierluigi de Pierro and drummer Valerio Scollo, the band recorded a demo that won praise from the music circuit in Taranto, the band’s home town. The fair success of the demo led the band to play its first gigs in local bars, where The Shoes mixed blues with psychedelic music and audiences were blown away by its picturesque performances with acid and powerful sounds. After a few months, Valerio left and drummer Lorenzo Velle joined the band, recording the first album of the group which was played live. The band later played in several concerts all over Italy: the experience made the band develop more mature sounds. The band changed once again its members when bass player Marco Pizzolla and drummer Andrea Basile joined The Shoes. Thanks to this new line-up the band acquired more expressive freedom and improvisation abilities that are already evident in the band’s latest tracks.

Today is Technicolor

Thanks again to Blair Kodman, the manager of Heavy Glow, for sharing this album!
About a year ago I've posted the EP The Filth And The Fury by the band Heavy Glow.
Now is Heavy Glow back with their brand new album Midnight Moan. This album is a continuation on their previous releases. This trio from San Diego offers again a nice mixture of Stoner Rock, Hard Rock, Blues Rock and Psychedelics with influences of 60's and 70's Rock.
Heavy Glow shows again their musical abilities. The nine songs they wrote for Midnight Moan are stunning! The voice of Jared is just as phenomenal as on their previous work.
The highlights of this album are: Lose My Mind, Today is Technicolor (One Step Closer), All My Money and Collide. Enjoy!

Heavy Glow was formed in 2008 in San Diego. The hard rock trio recorded its first EP at Velvet Revolver’s Studio in Los Angeles with legendary producer Stevie Salas.

The self-titled debut EP captures the band’s ability to communicate raw, visceral music. Recorded in just 4 days, it was released to favorable reviews and international airplay. FOX’s new detective series “The Good Guys” used “Grinning in the Dark” in the soundtrack for its second episode.

The band is often compared to the likes of Queens of the Stone Age, Blue Cheer and The Black Keys. The band strives for hard-hitting, gritty, infectious and melodic rhythms to create a sound that is both informed by the past and undeniably modern.

With the addition of new drummer Dan Kurtz in 2009, the band released a follow-up entitled “The Filth & the Fury.” The EP contains 5 songs, all cut with the band playing live in one room over a period of six hours. Classic Rock Magazine distributed the song “Hot Mess” in the sampler CD for its July issue. The EP was nominated for “Best Rock Album of the Year” at the 2010 San Diego Music Awards.

The band has toured the South West extensively with shows in San Diego, L.A, Las Vegas, and Arizona and has been featured in magazines as varying as Nug Magazine, High Times Magazine, and Classic Rock Magazine. Their music has been played in over 22 countries.

Where The River Meets The Rock

Van Cleef is a Space/Stoner band from Adelaide, Australia. Their debut album Where The River Meets The Rock is a nice piece of work. The sound of Van Cleef is pretty unique. Beside the Space and Stoner influences, their is also some Blues and Southern Rock present in their sound. The album Where The River Meets The Rock has contains a collection of songs that can be described as surprising. The band plays their music with conviction and the singer has an awesome voice that comes close to Neil Fallon of Clutch. Needless to say that this album deserves to be heard. Oh.. And don't forget to check out the awesome video of the song Dalek Gulch! Enjoy!

1967 Impala; 350 smallblock running at speed around 2AM on a hot Los Angeles night. The top is down and your friends are screaming like angry raccoons in the bench seat beside you, but all you can hear is the roar of the crossover pipes on a 4barrel Edelbrock running rich... Why are they screaming ? Why do I smell unburnt gasoline? Why am I racing against a new-model Mercedes on this twisty road? Can I handle the diminishing-radius curve I know is approaching? Did I have two, three double tequilas? Was it more? Will there be Police buying coffee at 7-11 when I approach the checkout with an armful of malt liquor? If you have never asked yourself any of these questions you should avoid this album at all costs. It will blow out your BOSE speakers and your neighbors will call the FBI. Your yuppie friends will disown you & some teenager will spray a swastika on the hood of your Toyota in the parking lot at work. Van Cleef's debut album showcases a natural talent for heavy weirdness. "Barracuda Booty Boogie" starts it off with a reckless burn. If ZZ Top shaved themselves bald and robbed their way through the deep South, this is the song they'd be playing. "Gold" is the highlight of the album. Cleef goes straight for an oft-clichéd subject and pulls out a brilliant take on the California Night. For best results, pair with a fast run up Mulholland on a moonless evening full of crazed thoughts. That's merely the first two songs on this excellent CD. If you're looking for something new and unusual, give Where The River Meets The Rock a shot (or five). I guarantee you won't regret it. Your lawyer may raise objections but that's why you pay the bastard. You'll play it more than you expected.

The Pink Alchemist

This is the second album of The Soulbreaker Company, the great Hard Rock/Blues/70's Rock band from Basque Country. This album is in comparison to there debut album Hot Smoke & Heavy Blues a big step forward. The songs are better. The band even dares to use brass horns on some songs. Beside heavy songs there are also some mellow tracks. The Pink Alchemist is a highly recommended album by a great band. They are working now on their third album. For now: Enjoy The Pink Alchemist!

"The Soulbreak Company are the definition of hard rock. A powerful recording where the band show their passion for Led Zeppelin, Groundhogs, Black Sabbath, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Captain Beyond and Mountain."
(From Allthatisheavy)

The Soulbreaker Company - The Pink Alchemist (2008)

Hot Smoke & Heavy Blues

I saw this band perform in a local bar called De Vinger yesterday. The Soulbreaker Company is a band from Basque country that plays a combination of Hard Rock, Blues rock and 70's Rock. The show they performed last night was quite impressive. According to their MySpace The Soulbreaker Company is influenced by the following: Led Zeppelin, Raw Material, Bowie, Beatles, Stones ,Gong, Groundhogs, Atomic Rooster, Dixon II, Amon Duul II, Dark, Magna Carta, J. Coltrane, Hawkwind, Beer, Wilson Picket, Raging Slab, Weed, Black Sabbath,Uriah Heep, Mountain, Wine, Pink Floyd, Monster Magnet, Son House, Black Oak Arkansas and Captain Beyond.
The Hammond organ is an important element in their sound. It sometimes reminds me of the band Blood Of The Sun. The Soulbreaker Company is blessed with an awesome singer. You really should listen this great debut album. Enjoy!

The Filth & The Fury

Thanks to the manager of Heavy Glow, Blair Kodman for sharing this EP!
Heavy Glow is a Rock trio from San Diego, California. This band plays Stoner Rock with Psychedelic, Blues and 60's/70's influences and Heavy Glow does that very well.
Heavy Glow is often compared with QOTSA, Cream and Blue Cheer. The singer and guitar player Jared has a remarkable and awesome voice. The Filth & The Fury EP is their second release and it contains five great tracks. The most striking song in my opinion is Love Ghost, an outstanding song with blues influences! If you like this EP, visit the website and order The Filth & The Fury EP. Enjoy!

Jared Mullins and Joe Brooks formed San Diego-based power rock trio Heavy Glow in August 2008. The group recorded its first EP at Velvet Revolver’s Studio in Los Angeles with legendary producer Stevie Salas, who has worked with artists such as Rod Stewart and Mick Jagger.

The self-titled debut EP’s six songs capture the band’s ability to communicate raw, visceral music. It was released to favorable reviews and international airplay. FOX’s new detective series “Good Guys” used Heavy Glow’s “Grinning in the Dark” in the soundtrack for its second episode.

The band is often compared to the likes of Queens of the Stone Age, Blue Cheer and The Black Keys. Mullins said the band strives for “hard-hitting, gritty, infectious and melodic rhythms to create a sound that is both informed by the past and undeniably modern.”

With the addition of new drummer Dan Kurtz in 2009, the band released a follow-up entitled The Filth & the Fury in January 2010. The EP contains 5 new songs, all cut with the band playing live in one room over a period of six hours. Singles include “Hot Mess” and “Love Ghost.” Classic Rock Magazine distributed “Hot Mess” in its sampler CD for its July issue.

One reviewer said, The Filth and the Fury “… will transport you to a bygone era. Heavy Glow has mastered the tones and styles that dominated the crunchy and fuzzy psychedelic sounds that permeated freedom rock. Combined with the smoky soul of the vocals supplied by Jared Mullins, you have a win-win situation.”

The Filth & the Fury is available online through iTunes, Amazon, Napster and Rhapsody.

Let's Go Retro!

Thanks to Anders for sending me another great album!
Yer from Brazil plays some awesome Retro Rock. There are a lot of influences here, according to their MySpace the following: Hendrix, Free, Stones, Beatles, Faces, Humble Pie, James Gang, Derek And The Dominos, Stevie Wonder, Johnny Winter, Dylan, Led Zep, Black Sabbath, BB - Allbert - Freddie King. In fact Yer combines 70's Hard Rock, 60's Rock and Blues together to a great sound. First Of Many Others is an album with some great variety, from Heavy to Psychedelic, from Blues to Mellow. If you like some Retro stuff, then this is your thing. Enjoy.

2008 has been kinda a “Sargent Peppers Lonely time” for YER. Since Yer..s debut Ep in 2005, they had played and grown as a band, going deeply inside their heart and soul, searching for breath moment off the stage, that kind of nirvana insight as keruac on the Mountains with his devils had and mad about. Sort of things that make us a better human been; seen, listen, feeling the movement of the world.
As a trio, the difficult to assimilate and express all the contemporary rock style make they go into their own studio, call it simple “Power of Soul” that meaning it self.
That was the last thing missing for Yer, free time rolling songs, tracking fields, mixing their own songs like their idols Eddie Kramer, Glyn and Andy johns bros, Tom Dowd and much more mates. Having a really good times, as the golden years when Traffic had composed songs in a small cottage in rural Berkshire or when The Band did the same, living in Woodstock.
Now Yer just become the own self intuitive feelings, putting they selves all together without any misunderstanding and block of the big bosses, and this is not what you going to find around, because Yer is what they are, simple a Power of Soul, making good, strange, wrong and maybe confuse songs, things they are shitin.. off for the bloody wankers, because this is pure. If it will be good, is your decision, because they are far away on the mountains of south Brazil….. cheers!!!

London..s air has ever been the “wicked place” for rock..n..roll, you know, and was there that Fabiano Koeche de Melo completed his mastership in rock, blues and psychedelic feelings. After two years walking around the Queen..s land , Fabiano has backed to south Brazil and in 2005 recruited his younger brother Mauricio (bass) and the old friend Guilherme Pitt (drums) to form a band. The most talented power trio from that area. Here you can appreciate the first Yer..s EP, called “Cheers Mate!” Melting amps in a full pelt performance with a old fashion style is quite rare to find out on the rock arena on this days, loud guitar bends with a les paul through a marshall amps, hard beats rhythm on drums and a big and strong bass lines that could make mrs Bruce and Bogert cry of jealously – yeah mate, that..s a real rule for Yer, just make a kind of Blues / Rock with the “old smell” without lose the 90..s energy.

Swedish Bluesy Stoner: BACON BROTHERS.

This is a fine album from the Swedish band Bacon Brothers. These guys combines Stoner Rock with Blues Rock, think Five Horse Johnson!
I can't find anything about this band/album (no website, no MySpace, nothing), but I assure you: This is a nice one! Enjoy!
(Thanks to Anders!)

Bacon Brothers - Pit Stop (2000)

Swedish AC/DC?

This is the self-titled debut album by the Swedish Hard Rockers Bonafide. This album sounds a lot like AC/DC, even the singer is balancing between Bon Scott and Brian Johnson. Bonafide sounds beside the rip-off idea very well. This debut album sounds great and the songs are good. Great rhythms and riffs!
I haven't heard the second album called
Something´s Dripping yet, but I believe there are more other influences on that album according their MySpace page. Well, maybe you'll like Bonafide. Enjoy!
(Thanks again to Anders for sending in this one!)

TWO YEARS HAS passed since Sweden..s, perhaps finest, hard rock band, Malmö based BONAFIDE, released their debut album. And a bit more than a year since their triumphant show on the main stage at the 2008 Sweden Rock Festival.

BONAFIDE was formed by singer/guitarist (and awesome drummer for Jason & The Scorchers) Pontus Snibb and rock solid bassplayer Michael Nilsson in Malmö, southern Sweden, in 2006. Pontus, who had already made quite a name for himself playing with countless well known artists on the Scandinavian blues and rock scene, wanted to broaden his musical horizon by turning the volume to 11 and play hard rock the way it..s supposed to be played - True to it..s roots in the electric blues and early R..n..B. Enter Mikael Fässberg, guitarist (Paul DiAnno, ex Nazareth guitarist Manny Charlton etc) and Sticky Bomb, drummer with an attitude, and the quartet was complete.

Since then the band has been busy playing the Scandinavian club and festival circuit, and has also supported Mustasch, Deep Purple, Status Quo, Y&T, The Quireboys and countless of other acts in arenas and theaters.

In January 2009 BONAFIDE locked themselves into Musicamatic studios (Soundtrack of our Lives, DAD) in Gothenburg, Sweden with acclaimed producer Chips Kiesbye (The Hellacopters, The Nomads, Millencollin) and began to record their second full length album, titled “Something..s Dripping”, soon out world wide through Black Lodge Records. When released it will be BONAFIDE..s first properly distributed release outside of Scandinavia.

As always BONAFIDE delivers blues and R..n..B based full throttle rock..n..roll, No holds barred. Chips Kiesbye has added his brilliant production skills to the formula, and you seldom hear guitars this beefy or vocals with this much pure attitude and bravado. Main songwriter and front man extraordinarie, Pontus Snibb shares writing credits with fellow guitarist Mikael Fässberg on two of the album..s 11 tracks. This, plus the fact that the whole group nowdays contributes to the creative process, has added a new dimension and a slightly different angle to BONAFIDE..s simplistic, yet innovative and fresh take on classic hard rock. Mia Coldheart of Swedish metal queen..s Crucified Barbara also appear on the album, in the duet “Straight Shooters”.

Another Australian Classic: BON SCOTT & FRATERNITY

One of the first bands before Bon Scott joined AC/DC was Fraternity. This was a Blus Rock band with some Psychedelic influences. They've made two records and the first one, Livestock is highly recommandable.
Seasons Of Change is a re-issue of The Complete Sessions, original released in 1997.

Fraternity were an Australian rock band active in the early 1970s. They are notable mainly for their lead vocalist Bon Scott who was later to join AC/DC; and Jimmy Barnes, Scott's replacement, who went on to join Cold Chisel and have a very successful solo career.
Fraternity were formed in 1970 by some members of the recently-split Levi Smith Clefs. They were without a regular vocalist until Fraternity's bass player Bruce Howe decided to call upon Bon Scott, whose group The Valentines had just disbanded. New Zealand musician John Bissett played keyboards in this early line up.
Fraternity released two albums and a few singles, which enjoyed moderate success in their native Australia. However, an attempt to find success in the UK was not fruitful and in early 1973 the band changed its name to Fang. By mid-1973 the group had stalled and gradually disintegrated, and the members returned to Australia.
