Before You Go Blind

In 2009 I've posted the demo by the band Nevesis here. This Estonian quartet is now back with their same titled album. Nevesis plays a heavy and uptempo mix of Stoner and Hard Rock. According to their Facebook page, is Nevesis influenced by the following: Kyuss, Fu Manchu, Led Zeppelin, Black Sabbath, Stone Temple Pilots, Soundgarden, Truly, Big Elf, Sgt. Sunshine, The Sword, Kin Ping Meh, Emerald City, Fuzzy Duck and Foo Fighters. The album has become an awesome piece of work with the three re-recorded songs from the demo and six new songs. Enjoy!

Nevesis spells trouble, yet, like many a disobedient, back-talking brat, they possess a certain irresistible cool, an unexpected emotion grown out of their raw scruffiness. Moreover, the level of technicality of Nevesis' riff-laden heavy rock is high enough to suck into the vortex of trouble even those listeners for whom the rumbling chords, the unbelievable vocals and the powerful, sense-undermining groove are not enough to achieve catharsis. The more predisposed audiences, though, will soon find that Nevesis, either live or recorded, can invade and ravish their bodies, pants and heads faster than they can say “WTF just happened?”

The Expiration Of Drowsiness

Thanks again to Andrés F for sharing another great piece of music!
Andrés F is the guy behind the one-man band Culumus Nimbus with the fantastic album Montaña Oscura. Now he has started together with two others with a new project called Agade.
Agade just has finished their Soundproof Demo and it is an awesome piece of work for a beginning band.
These guys play almost Instrumental Heavy Rock with Space and Psychedelic influences and they have a big love for extended songs.
Their sound reminds me a bit of Color Haze and Sons Of Otis. But overall they sound pretty authentic.
This demo is so good produced, i can't hardly call it a demo. These five songs are a proof of what Agade is capable of.
This demo is really impressive and highly recommended! Andrés F is like King Midas, everything he's involved in, turns into gold! This demo proofs that! I really look forward to Agade's "real" album!

We are from Cordoba, Argentina, and began playing on July 2011. At the beginning we had a 4th member (another guitar player), but he left the band, so now we are just a trio.
The line-up is: myself on guitar & vocals, Horacio on bass & vocals and Marky on drums, percussion & vocals. Though this first demo only includes instrumental stuff, we have a couple of songs that are more vocal-driven.
Currently we are working on several songs and on a extended version of the song "Wurdulak" (about 40 - 50 minutes) which probably will became our first work to be recorded.
Our biggest influences are Pink Floyd, Hawkwind, Jimi Hendrix, Black Sabbath, Led Zeppelin, Deep Purple, King Crimson, Los Natas, Kyuss, and other stuff like that.

Vincebuz has released several recordings and this is the album La Dimension Desconocida from 2009.
This album contains eight fantastic tracks of experimental Heavy Rock with Stoner and Psychedelic influences.
Their heavy music is complemented with electronic effects, which certainly enriches their sound.
La Dimension Desconocida is a piece of awesomeness that for sure deserves to be heard. Enjoy!

A Planet On Four Legs

A big thanks to Cris from the band Dope Flood for sharing their EP!
From Larissa, Greece comes the band Dope Flood. These four guys plays Heavy Rock with Stoner, Southern and Metal influences.
According to their Facebook page, they're influenced by the following bands: Kyuss, Down, Crowbar, Hermano, Fu Manchu, Black Label Society, Alice In Chains, The Melvins, Lynyrd Skynyrd and Deep Purple.
On their debute EP named A Planet On Four Legs, presents Dope Flood three impressive tracks. The sound of these songs is pretty massive. The guitar riffs are nice and heavy, the drums and bass are solid and on top of that there are these great and raw vocals.
Dope Flood is yet another great addition to Greek Stoner scene. Enjoy!

Cris(Guitar) came up with he idea of making Dope Flood, and with the help of his friend Manos (Vocals), because they could not express themselves at the band that they were before. So they started to write down material, and progressing it by themselves. Then they started searching for a drummer and a bassist, because Cris would take care of guitars and Manos of vocals. After a lot of searching, Bill came up behind the drum kit, because he liked the music of the band very much. Then Asterios came up with the bass. The lineup was finally complete and Dope Flood were ready. Then, the band entered the studio and recorded its first demo/EP called “A Planet On 4 Legs”. The bands first Demo/EP came out March 15 2011 …Keep The Bongs Up……

The Mentalist

The Mentalist is an one song album by the Idaho based band The Reptilians. This foursome plays Heavy Rock with Metal influences or, as they call it themselves, Pragueressive Applecore Meatal.
According to their Facebook page, The Reptilians are inspired by the following bands: Tool, Nine Inch Nails, Acid Bath, Neurosis, Opeth, Pantera, Agents Of Oblivion, Type O Negative, Deadboy And The Elephantmen, King Crimson, Robert Fripp, Adrian Belew, Primus, Pink Floyd, The Beatles, Nile, Quodia, The Doors, Dying Fetus, Mastodon, Six Fe. This gives you a small clue of what The Reptillians is about.
The Mentalist is a 27 minute lasting track. It is a pretty entertaining song with not a dull moment. This song is a clear display of their great musicianship.
This album can be downloaded for free at their website among their other releases.
This file includes a band bio, selected press and a 37 page .pdf booklet of artwork for the album and the bonus track Apocalyptic Sunshine High (Live). Enjoy!

Strange situations can lead to great things. Take the example of The Reptilians. Based jointly out of the Idahoan SLC suburb known as Pocatello and the desperate agricultural community of Burley, Idaho, The Reptilians are faced with a few less-than-usual circumstances. To start, there is essentially no music scene around them. Collectively, the members of The Reptilians have accounted for a significant portion of what local scene there has been in the last ten years. Add to that a significant density of highly religious locals, geographical isolation, ready access to various drugs, and you have one curious stew brewing.

Masterminded by a sharp witted anti-philosopher with a penchant for spewing forth bullet proof rants against the world, The Reptilians have been growing like mold under your floorboards for nearly a decade. Unnoticed by the general public around them and thin on outside influence, they have been able to craft a 26 minute opus of thoughtful, well planned, sonically intriguing, catchy, at times intentionally confounding music. A metallic yet dreamy journey unlike any other, with no comparison readily drawn. That journey is called “The Mentalist.”

Everything Can Be A Lie

I'd like to thank José from the band Killimanjaro for sharing their EP!
Killimanjaro is a new power trio from Barcelos, Portugal. This band plays energetic Heavy Rock with Stoner and Seventies influences.
Today is the release of their same titled debut EP. This EP contains seven awesome tracks. The power of Killimanjaro are the freaky bass and drum patterns in combination with stunning fuzz guitar. The singer of this band has a great voice that fits the music well.
The artwork is done by Anoik. See more of his work here.
The Killimanjaro EP is a nice piece of work that sounds raw and heavy. An excellent start by this new band! Enjoy!

''On the same town as other heavy bands such as Aspen or Black Bombaim, three normal guys from Barcelos, Portugal, decided, on April 2011, to get together a go heavy. They realized that it wouldn't be need more than a trio, a power trio. Influenced by the stoner-rock bands of today and inspired on the 70's rock era, they've just released their first EP and are hope you to bang your heads while listening''

City Of Fuzz

Thanks to Barbara for sending me this promo!
Lord Stereo from Warsaw, Poland is a band that plays great Stoner Rock with Psychedelic, Punk, Garage and Hard Rock influences, or as the band calls it: Heavy Vintage Rock.
This promo contains two of the seven tracks from their same titled EP. Lord Stereo is an awesome band that plays their music very well. What I like about this band, is the addition of organ in their sound.
These two tracks gives a clear image of what Lord Stereo is about. So support this band and buy the entire EP on their Bandcamp page. Enjoy!

Lord Stereo's music can be described in three words:

VINTAGE - like the postcards and photos from the late sixties and early seventies, full of melancholy and longing for the times of rebellion and carelessness. With a psychedelic sound of Hammond organ and a dirty, unruly guitar clatter in the background.

HEAVY - like a burden of sadness and anger that has accompanied us in music for generations, like the intensity of emotions.

ROCK - because as a band we belong in a great music drawer of this genre's numerous influences, where the Stooges are mixed with Black Sabbath and early Led Zeppelin with the 1960s garage punk rock.

Natural eclecticism, stemming from the diverse characters and inspirations of the band members, emotionality and simplicity are the key features of Lord Stereo. The band is formed by people known from a variety of alternative groups such as The Black Tapes, Oregano Chino, Vavamuffin, Pablopavo i Ludziki, the Monsters from Switzerland, Poker Face or Capital.

Drive On

Zeus is a band from Amsterdam, Holland. This quartet plays Heavy Rock with Stoner and Grunge influences. The singer of this band is Jeroen van Koningsbrugge. This guy is here in Holland a famous and humorous TV personality. It was a total surprise for me that he also has these vocal qualities.
This band was completed with three more than capable musicians. Zeus has released two albums until now. The first one was called Bad Signs from 2005 and this album from 2007 is just simply named 07. A new album was scheduled for 2009 or 2010, but it seems that Zeus for indefinitely has stopped.
I'm not familiar with their debut album Bad Signs, but I can tell that 07 is an impressive piece of work. Enjoy!

ZEUS was founded in 2003 by singer Jeroen van Koningsbrugge, drummer Paul Jansen and guitarist Roy Jansen. Soon after, bass player Bob Gerritsen completed the band. The objective was clear and simple: to make heavy, groovy rock music. Influenced by Black Sabbath, Led Zeppelin, Karma To Burn, Transport League, Goatsnake and the wave of nineties grunge and stoner, ZEUS developed their sound.
After spending their first year in rehearsal rooms, ZEUS started recording in the spring of 2004 with producer Marcel vd Vondervoort (Astrosoniq and others). The band flew to New York to play the famous CBGB’s venue, trying out their material for the first time. Their American style and heavy performance kicked in right away, selling out the “Threetrackintroduction” demo immediately. ZEUS returned to Amsterdam, fired up and ready to finish their debut album “Bad Signs”. It was released independently in 2005 by ZEUS’ own label Sixxkiller and distributed by Suburban. Bad Signs said it all: raw, heavy groove rock grabbing you by the throat. While the album was getting positive reviews, ZEUS started doing what they do best: playing live shows till they dropped.

In October 2007, ZEUS’ second album “07” was released by Freebird Records. The album was very well received in Europe and the USA and contains 10 tracks that deliver a cocktail of old school heavy rock, melodic groove and even some doom. Like the debut album, 07 was mixed and produced by Marcel vd Vondervoort and mastered by Alan Ward. Somewhere in 2008, Bob Gerritsen decided to emigrate to Switzerland. He left the band in October 2009. Rowdy Lemaire joined the band as the new bass player. ZEUS has plans to release their third album late 2009 or early 2010.

Macho Libre

The following contribution comes from Athens, Greece.
Planet Of Zeus is a Heavy Rock band with Stoner, Southern Rock and Metal influences. This foursome has recently released their second album Macho Libre at B-Otherside Records. The sound that they present is pretty solid. The singer has an impressive voice that reminds a bit of Neil Fallon from Clutch. The guitar sound is very great, just as the bass and drums.
Macho Libre is an album with eleven strong compositions. Just as a lot of other bands, Planet Of Zeus is a great asset in the Greek Stoner Rock scene. Enjoy!

Planet of Zeus are a heavy rock, southern metal band from Athens, Greece. Were formed in 2000 and since then have extensively toured around Greece, playing in every venue possible, ranging from shitholes to stadiums. Their raw , sincere and constantly evolving live performances have secured them a loyal and hardcore underground following , which exceeds Greece's geographical boarders and has led them to sharing the stage with acts like Hermano and Brant Bjork.

Following the release of several compilations, that included some of their songs, but especially after the release of their track “Nervous Breakdown” , which became a heavy rock dj favorite, Planet of Zeus released their debut album “ Eleven the hard way” in April 2008. The album, which has sold out, was released worldwide through Casket Music / Copro records (uk) and received attention and reviews beyond expectation.

Thanks to Ollie from the band Grifter for sharing this EP!

Last year Grifter released the great EP The Simplicity Of The Riff Is Key. This is their 2008 EP High Unholy Mighty Rollin'. This EP contains five nice songs and they rock!
