And I Will Be Heard

Here's a great release by the finest label of Italy: Go Down Records!
From Rimini, Italy comes the band Using Bridge. This foursome plays a combination of Stoner Rock and Grunge.
Using Bridge has released three albums and And I Will Be Heard is their most recent. The music consists of great guitar riffs and nice rhytms. Using Bridge offers a variety of songs that goes from heavy to acoustic.
But what is really special about this band are the vocals. The voice of Manuel Ottaviani is awesome. He does remind me sometimes of Chris Cornell.
So this is a damn fine album that has to be heard!

Not Much Time To Lose

Birth Of Joy is a power trio from Holland. These guys play a mix of Sixties Rock, Psychedelic Rock, Blues and Grunge. Their main weapon is the incredible Hammond organ. Together with the guitars and drums, they've created an awesome sound. Beside that there are also these great vocals.
Their full length debut called Life In Babalou is an outstanding album with ten songs.
The sound of Birth Of Joy reminds me a lot of another great dutch band named De Wolff.
If you're interested in some more of this fantastic band, then you can stream their same titled EP at their Bandcamp site. Enjoy!

Mother Fuzzer

I want to thank Max from Go Down Records again for sending another beauty!
Underdogs is an italian trio that plays some superb Stoner Rock with Psychedelic, Seventies and Grunge elements. According to their Facebook page is this band influenced by the following bands and artists: Kyuss, Queens Of The StoneAge, Ramones, Fu Manchu, Black Sabbath, The Doors, Nirvana, Rage Against The Machine, Led Zeppelin, Danzig, Helmet, Melvins, Motorpsycho, Stone Temple Pilots, Brant Bjork, Alfredo Hernandez, Joe Lalli and Vic Dumonte.
Revolution Love is their third release after the debut Ready To Burn and the unplugged EP Dogs Without Plugs. (This EP is available as free download on their MySpace page.)
Revolution Love is a nice collection of songs that goes from energetic and up-tempo to some more laid-back.
So it is fair to say that Underdogs is a great band with an impressive new album. Enjoy!

Once in a great while, a band comes along that sets itself apart from the rest.
With the recent explosion of independent music this becomes an even more difficult task.
As rock bands evolve and develop a more technical and refined sound, it becomes increasingly necessary to sonically "strike hard and fast" and leave your listener "hooked and begging for more. Enter UNDERDOGS.
Powerful and versatile trio inspired by the "desert rock", supported by GoDown Records and formed in 2004.
They already occupy a respectable place in the Italian underground, thanks to a lot of granitic & wild r'n'roll gigs all over Italy (and not only..), supporting international cult bands such as Nebula, Josiah, Colour Haze, OJM, Joe Lalli (Fugazi), The Answer, Brant Bjork (Kyuss), and many more!!
The lucky debut album "Ready to burn" was released in 2007 for GoDown Records, followed in 2009 by an E.P. unplugged "Dogs without plugs" (self-produced and available for free download).
After one year away from the scene for recording the new album & changing drummer, on summer 2011 they are ready to come back and strike again. The new album will be available by september 2011..
..so let's keep one eye open.. ..the 'dogs are back!

Drive On

Zeus is a band from Amsterdam, Holland. This quartet plays Heavy Rock with Stoner and Grunge influences. The singer of this band is Jeroen van Koningsbrugge. This guy is here in Holland a famous and humorous TV personality. It was a total surprise for me that he also has these vocal qualities.
This band was completed with three more than capable musicians. Zeus has released two albums until now. The first one was called Bad Signs from 2005 and this album from 2007 is just simply named 07. A new album was scheduled for 2009 or 2010, but it seems that Zeus for indefinitely has stopped.
I'm not familiar with their debut album Bad Signs, but I can tell that 07 is an impressive piece of work. Enjoy!

ZEUS was founded in 2003 by singer Jeroen van Koningsbrugge, drummer Paul Jansen and guitarist Roy Jansen. Soon after, bass player Bob Gerritsen completed the band. The objective was clear and simple: to make heavy, groovy rock music. Influenced by Black Sabbath, Led Zeppelin, Karma To Burn, Transport League, Goatsnake and the wave of nineties grunge and stoner, ZEUS developed their sound.
After spending their first year in rehearsal rooms, ZEUS started recording in the spring of 2004 with producer Marcel vd Vondervoort (Astrosoniq and others). The band flew to New York to play the famous CBGB’s venue, trying out their material for the first time. Their American style and heavy performance kicked in right away, selling out the “Threetrackintroduction” demo immediately. ZEUS returned to Amsterdam, fired up and ready to finish their debut album “Bad Signs”. It was released independently in 2005 by ZEUS’ own label Sixxkiller and distributed by Suburban. Bad Signs said it all: raw, heavy groove rock grabbing you by the throat. While the album was getting positive reviews, ZEUS started doing what they do best: playing live shows till they dropped.

In October 2007, ZEUS’ second album “07” was released by Freebird Records. The album was very well received in Europe and the USA and contains 10 tracks that deliver a cocktail of old school heavy rock, melodic groove and even some doom. Like the debut album, 07 was mixed and produced by Marcel vd Vondervoort and mastered by Alan Ward. Somewhere in 2008, Bob Gerritsen decided to emigrate to Switzerland. He left the band in October 2009. Rowdy Lemaire joined the band as the new bass player. ZEUS has plans to release their third album late 2009 or early 2010.

Plan 9 From Outer Space

I want to thank the band The Dive and their record label Spinalonga Records for sharing this album! The Dive is a band from Athens, Greece. This quartet plays awesome Rock music with several influences like Stoner, Psychedelic and Grunge. Their self titled debut album contains over one hour music, that can be described as outstanding. Despite the minor QOTSA inspiration, The Dive has definitely a sound of their own. The songs are varied and entertaining. On the musical level performs this band very well. The compositions are more than fine and original. All in all is The Dive a band that deserves attention. Enjoy and support this band!

Surviving in Athens, influenced and drenched by city rats and the rancid stench lurking in the atmosphere, the Dive put out their debut album. Dark in its most cheerful of melodies, sonic even in its silence, this album manifests its own, peculiar soundprint… Out now! Complements of Spinalonga and the Lab Records.
(From Spinalonga Records)

"The Dive were formed in the year 2000. Influenced mostly from 70s and 90s rock, garage and punk they produce a psychedelic mix with their own, unique soundprint. They've participated in local compilations, shared the stage-as supporting acts with bands like Mudhoney, Brant Bjork, Nightstalker ,Truckfighters and played live all around Greece. In the spring of 2011, they released their self-titled debut album on Spinalonga Records and Lab Records."

Mahogany Secrecy

I like to thank Simon from the band The Buffalos for sharing their EP!
The Buffalos is a French band with members from different directions. The style of this band is hard to label. There are some slight Stoner elements present, but there are also other influences in their music like Metal, Hard Rock, Rock 'n' Roll and even a twist of Grunge.
The Buffalos has released their first EP In Hell We Dwell (I love that title!) and now they're back with the EP Mahogany Secrecy.
The great strength of this band is definitely the singer. This guy has a very diverse style of singing. Sometimes he sounds almost exactly like Serj Takian from System Of A Down, but there are also other elements in his voice that I not can compare.
The musicians also made a major contribution to the EP Mahogany Secrecy. THese guys are very good and skilled. This band is also capable of writing good and original songs.
I have to say that The Buffalos have surprised me with their amazing music. The EP Mahogany Secrecy is certainly a recommendation! Enjoy!

"Entrancing like an opium vertigo, hard and dark like ebony but velvet
like a geisha's silken panties, THE BUFFALOS illegally distill music for
doomed pirates, and freedom addicted basterdz.

After years of roving around the world from Thailand's old opium dens
through the heated bordellos of East Africa to the desperate yet divine
landscape of Antarctica, The Duke, El Bavo, and The Breton decided to
transcribe into music what it is like to live like a pirate (according to
their own convenient definition).

This is how the infamous adventure of THE BUFFALOS started in 2008…

The infernal crew defended its first EP (In Hell We Dwell - 2009) on more
than fifty gigs, opening for legendary bands such as SUICIDAL TENDENCIES.
They are standing by to board and scar the world again with their new five
track canon ball: The Mahogany Secrecy.

Behold your outrageous kings, thou ravenous whores and thieves ! Hide your
virgins and be ready to rock for THE BUFFALOS are in town to burn it all
down !"

Into The Unknown

Forging A New Path is the second release by the band Mother Of God. This quartet from Smedjebacken, Sweden plays some excellent Grunge influenced Stoner Rock. These guys offer huge guitar riffs with a nice bass/drum combination. There are also great vocals to complete it all. This EP rocks! All of the four songs are great. They're nicely heavy.
I'm curious for the first release of this brilliant band. Enjoy!

Woke up at dawn and felt a strong belief in nature spirits, looked out. Black shape. I went to the nearby forest and the journey had begun. Without a direct way, I went through the woods and crossed mountains. Suddenly elated by light, I was under the raven's wings. Numb. Awakened by a thud and the silhouettes of the three. Embrace..
The circle was complete.

Gabbatha

There is maybe a financial crisis going on in Greece, but that does not count for the Greek music scene! This band contribution is a proof of that fact!
The Bliss is a band from the nice harbour city Piraeus. This quartet plays mainly Grunge with several influences such as Stoner Rock and as they call it Japanese Classical Music.
The result is outstanding! With their album Gabbatha, The Bliss offers over one hour of awesome music. Gabbatha is a varied album with songs that are heavy and some songs that are more serene. The Bliss has really a sound of their own, but there are two bands that come to mind. That are Alice In Chains and Tool. In any case, The Bliss has released a truly beautiful album. Enjoy and support these guys!

We are "THE BLISS". A music trio from Piraeus Greece. We were formed in 2000 and we create music together ever since. About one year after we got together, we recorded our first demo, "BODYCODE" (2001) and after one more year our second demo recording, "ASSEMBLE"(2003). Our past influences stemmed from the early scene of Seattle, back in the 90's. Through the years, our inspiration started to become more complicated and our influences derived from various sounds and patterns that you find in greek traditional and other kinds of progressive rock bands. During that time we participated in two compilation cd's (IN THE JUNKYARD vol 2.,IN THE JUNKYARD vol 3.) released by Spinalonga records which is a non profit label organized by the bands, in Athens. All these years we've been performing all around our country, in small and big festivals, and sharing the stage with small and even bigger bands such as NIGHTSTALKER, EARTHBOUND, ECHO TATTOO, PLANET OF ZEUS, LUCKY FUNERAL, DEUS EX MACHINA and many more. Also we were the openning act for FAITH NO MORE reunion in Athens,in 2009. Meanwhile, we were experimenting and recording new material for our debut album "GABBATHA". In the mean time we are really interested in finding ways to promote our music by touring around the world and also seeking for an interesting deal with a record label.

V Column

The following contribution was sent in by Tam Ali from the band Awooga!
Awooga is a trio from Sheffield, UK. This band plays some awesome Progressive Power Rock. The EP V Column is the second release and it contains five supurb songs. The guitar sound is excellent. It is full of spectecular effects. The singer does a great job, this guy has a very good voice. The rhythm section creates a solid base for the amazing music of Awooga.
Awooga doesn't play everyday's music, but it does for sure deserve a listen. Enjoy!

AWOOGA started in late 2008 jamming away in a cold little decrepit practice room in Sheffield city centre across from a 86 year old Master Steel Forger who once made knives for Bill Clinton and Elvis Presley. No lie, he showed us the photos.

AWOOGA are a 3 piece power trio that features: -

Tam Ali - Vocals and Bass Guitar
Taz Ali - Drums
James Borrowdale - Guitar

Our sound is heavy, melodic and atmospheric. It's a bit proggy and we have been told " you guys sound like a star exploding". Have a listen.

We spent a while writing and finding our sound and released the "OVER 9000" E.P. This enabled us to get gigs and get a good fan base. We have gigged at Corporation, West Street Live and have even covered Michael Jackson they day after he died.

We have just recorded our new 5 track album entitled " V Column". It's available for download on various sites and we are looking to tour near you in October 2011.

We have played with some really good bands in the past and still do now such as Stonerun, Saviours, Kruger, Downslide, and many more that we have been privileged to share bills with in the past.

No Man's Land

The Italian label Go Down Records has released some awesome albums. Sequoia Seeds by Pater Nembrot is such an album.
Pater Nembrot is an Italian trio that plays some hell of a great Psychedelic Stoner Rock with Space, Grunge and even some Doom influences.
What I also like about Sequoia Seeds is the use of flute and synthesizers.
According to their MySpace, Pater Nembrot is inspired by the following: Agitation Free, Ash Ra Tempel, PFM, Osanna, Il Balletto di Bronzo, Il Rovescio della Medaglia, Patto, T2, Soft Machine, Blue Cheer, Grand Funk Railroad, Stooges, Mad Season, Big Chief, Melvins, Nirvana, Monster Magnet, Motorpsycho, Kyuss, Dead Meadow, Sleep, Causa Sui, Miles Davis, Sun Ra Arkestra.
Sequoia Seeds is the second album by Pater Nembrot and it absolutely an masterpiece with as highlight the final track No Man's Land! Enjoy!

Pater Nembrot formed in winter 2002 but it's in 2003 the band reaches its actual line up, with G.C. on drums, G.F. on bass and F.L. on voice, guitar and synthetizer. On late summer 2007, after many gigs, live efforts and fun, the band decides to record its new material at the Atomic Studio, with Enrico Zavalloni ( a.k.a. ENRi, who has collaborated with many national and international artist and rock guru, such as Faith no More's Mike Patton, playing with him in the Mondo Cane project!!!). The results of those recording sessions is "MANDRIA": 11 tracks of pure stoner, psychedelic rock'n'roll, suspended between Italian 70's progressive and Seattle muddy guitars: from Hendrix's to Cobain's one. "MANDRIA" will be released by GO DOWN RECORDS on september 2008 and it will be distributed in Italy, Europe and USA. At this moment, it's possible to hear some PATER NEMBROT vibes on "MANDRIA e.p." that collects 4 songs extracted from the omonimous album, or FREE downloading the first compilation of the deutch 70's/stoner/psych webzine Generated-X.de, called "Electric-Magic Vol. I", which includes the song "E' Permesso?".

Pater Nembrot “Sequoia Seeds” is an envolving psychedelic rock journey across spacy, 70’s and post-grunge lands. The album – that will be officially released in February 2011 in mp3, cd and vynil format by Godown Records – features progressive legend Enzo Vita (original founder of the Italian progressive band Il Rovescio della Medaglia) on guitars. Vita joined the band during the recording sessions of Sequoia Seeds at the Atomic Studio (IT) in summer 2010 and played on the prog-rock anthem Ratla Klim, adding oddity to Awakening with Curiosity, and contributing to the final suite called No Man’s Land.
But Vita is not the only good thing dealing with the album. Actually, “Sequoia Seeds” features as guest and co-producer ENRì (Mike’s Patton Mondo Cane, VIP200) on Hammond organ on H.a.a.r.p. This album manages – better than its predecessor “Mandria” (Godown Records, 2008) – in representing what Nembrots can do best: wavy atmosphere, drones, slow and groovy rithms, reverberated melodies and a general psychedelic attitude to things.
Sequoia Seeds will be officially released in February 2011 by Godown Records, but Nembrot will be touring their homecountry and Europe from January on.
During their live activity, Pater Nembrot shared the stage with some of the most interesting stoner/psychedelic rock acts such as Fatso Jetson (USA), Sleepy Sun (USA), OJM (ITA), Samsara Blues Experiment (DE), Rotor (DE), gaining the plause of people and critics

At Devil Dirt

The following contribution is from the Chilean band At Devil Dirt. This duo consists of Nestor Ayala on Vocals & Guitars and Francisco Alvarado on Drums. At Devil Dirt plays a combination of Sludge, Stoner and Doom with a bit of Grunge. I am very impressed by their self-titled debut album that is released at Corvus Discos. What really hits me in their music are the vocals. Nestor does an incredible job with his voice!
The music of At Devil Dirt sounds roughly to me as a crossover between Electric Wizard and Alice In Chains.
We're not even halfway through 2011, but I can say that this album will be one of the musical highlights of this year. This is highly recommended! If you like it, buy it! Enjoy!

Retreat To Space

This album was shared with me by Burdt from the band Aver. Thank you for that, Burdt!
Aver is a four headed band from Sydney, Australia. According to the band themselves Aver plays Stoner/Space Grunge. Well, I can agree with that description. But it is more than that. The sound of Aver is pretty unique. These guys play very good, so I wonder why this band is still not signed by any record label.
This debut album contains eight songs that can be classified as superb. (All of them!) The singer is really striking, his voice has a very distinctive sound. The songs are most of the time heavy and intense, but there's also room for some quiet and atmospheric parts. There is also the presence of didgeridoo and djembe. (The song Acid Rain starts and ends with didgeridoo. Very nice!)
The bottomline here is that Aver is an awesome band with an out of the ordinary sound. Go hear it and... Enjoy and support these guys!

Lock up your daughters! because AVER will be at her friend's house party screaming obscenities, hogging the stereo, breaking laws and vomiting in the swimming pool. Having just self-released their first album in April 2011, These unsigned 21-year-olds from Sydney, Australia have started out with a bang. Sounding like a radioactive Mudhoney took acid, smoked meth and played a gig underwater, this is Space/Stoner/Grunge for the thinking man, featuring didgeridoo, djembe and a scream that could strip paint. A style that defies genres. Spacey as shit, Heavy as fuck, No bullshit and No surrender. Get the headphones out for this one.

I Accidentally Enriched Myself With Happiness

Thanks the band Float A Ziggy for sending their new EP!
Six months ago I've posted here the first EP by Float A Ziggy, an Alternative Rock band with Grunge and Stoner influences from Groningen, The Netherlands.
Now they're back with the new EP The World Is My Muse. Beforehand, I had no high expectation of this EP, because I was told that the musical direction would be different. But Hell, this new EP is an impressive piece of work! These are five excellent songs.
According to the band this EP can be considered as apocalyptic. Float A Ziggy has not much positive to say about the future. In short, the songs are about self-enrichment of managers of big companies, the exploitation of religion and the desire for the sixties.
Float A Ziggy claims to be inspired by the following: The Smashing Pumpkins, Queens of the Stone Age, Silverchair, The Melvins, Nirvana, Soundgarden, Kyuss, Deftones, Masters of Reality, Type O Negative, Hüsker Dü, Alice in Chains, Pearl Jam, Beatles, The Doors and Herman Brood.
So you have a small idea of what Float A Ziggy is about. Enjoy!

Alternative Rock in a Beatles coat. Intense trio with great aspirations. Played 40+ shows and are planning to make 2011 their most succesful year up until now. Inspired by contemporary politics and everyday life, they toured the Netherlands in 2010. These guys are releasing their second EP 'The World is my Muse' in April 2011.

Down A River

Thanks again to the guys of Dinosaur Eyelids for sending me their new CD!
In may last year I've posted the first album called Winter Solstice by Dinosaur Eyelids. Now I'm honored to offer you their second album called Down A River. This album is a logical follow-up to the first album. Down A River contains fourteen nice tracks of Stoner and Grunge influenced Alternative Rock. The album kicks off with the great song Maelstrom Of Malevolence. This album sounds very good. It is well produced. All instruments sound outstanding and are in good balance. The singer does like on the first album a great job. This guy is blessed with a fantastic voice.
In terms of songs, this album is very balanced. There is next to the heavier songs also room for some quiet songs.
This is all in all a very good album. If you have appreciated the first album, then I think you will also like this album. My personal favorites are: Maelstrom Of Malevolence, Paranoid Schizophrenia, Nibiru, Blood Beat and Freedom Is A Word. Enjoy!

Dinosaur Eyelids is alternative rock for a new generation. Based in New Brunswick, NJ the band has earned a reputation for their incendiary live performances. Their debut album “Winter Solstice” was released in December 2009 on itunes and Amazon. They play regularly and are house favorites at The Court Tavern in New Brunswick. They also perform regularly at The Stone Pony (Asbury Park), North Star (Philadelphia), Arlene’s Grocery (NYC), Fontana’s (NYC), Bar East (NYC), The Fire (Philadelphia) and Championship’s (Trenton). Their sound is like The Replacements being molested by Soundgarden.

Italian Stoner/Grunge With An Awesome Female Singer

Alix is a band from Bologna, Italy. This band plays a combination of Stoner Rock and Grunge with a bit of Psychedelics. The album Ground is their fourth release. What strikes me about this band is the awesome female singer. She has a very good and powerful voice. The music is played outstanding. The guitars have a great fuzz sound and the drums and bass make it all complete. All with all a great album that deserves some attention. Nice tracks are Ground and Like A Flood. Enjoy!

If you love psychedelia and rock'n'roll, but above all if you want to listen to a stupendous female voice (a mixture of Grace Slick, Janis Joplin, P.J. Harvey, Chrissie Hynde, and a female version of Robert Plant) then ALiX is your band. Imagine a dinner party with 2/4 of the first edition of Fu Manchu, John Garcia in his historical guise of Unida and the odd waiter here and there provided by Spirit Caravan and Masters of Reality. Four albums to date: Alix (1997), Cuore in Bocca (1999), Nessun Brivido (2001), Ground (2004), which have made them famous in the stoner circuits of half of Europe. In 2000 the band shared the stage of the Heineken Jammin' Festival in Imola with Muse, Guano Apes, Primal Scream and Rage Against the Machine, as winners of the first edition of RockrEvolution. In 2003, the European tour with the Norwegian band Pawnshop and the Swedish band Dozer earned ALiX the title of "Italian Psychedelic Groove Rock Band". The year 2004 saw them on tour again in Europe, this time with the American band The Hidden Hand, the new band of Scott "Wino" Weinrich (famous also for his participation in Dave Grohl's Probot project). An exceptional review of the album Ground came from the English magazine Kerrang! which awarded the band with a (KKKK). In 2005/2006 the group performed live in various tours both in Italy and abroad. A new album to be recorded in February 2008 will be mixed by Steve Albini, producer of Nirvana, Stooges, Pixies and many others. The album will be recorded at Red House Recordings in Senigallia.

Duengo

This rare piece of vinyl contains a strange mix of Hardcore, Noise, Punk, Metal, and Grunge. I guess this album is the first recording from Guy of Orange Sunshine. This band was called Moengo Tapoe and it was with the same members as Panty Boy. Moego Tapoe was more an experimental band. The album Duengo sounds rather primitive. The music is pretty minimalistic and raw. Almost the half of the songs are instrumental. And even the tracks with vocals don't have much lyrics! I rediscovered Duendo recently in my collection and I enjoy it again! Enjoy it too!

Enter The Dungeon

Thanks to Tommy from the band Gniyrg Gnaarg for sharing this demo!
What we've got here is a demo of a band with the unpronounceable name Gniyrg Gnaarg. This Finnish/Spanish trio plays a vague combination of Stoner Rock, Doom Metal and Grunge. The result is splendid. Their debut demo called From Mother Sun sounds very nice. It contains four songs that are good for forty minutes of excellent music. The guitar sounds really heavy. The drums and bass do have a lingering and slow groove. The singer has a dark and mysterious voice that fits perfectly well with the music. This demo from Gniyrg Gnaarg tastes definitely for more! Enjoy!

The idea of creating a stoner/doom band was sprung up in the minds of native Helsinkians Tommy and Leo in the early summer of 2008, probably at one of the many bars in Kallio, Helsinki. The band remained a brainchild of the two bassists (one of which had never touched a bass in his life) for over a year, until one night in early september 2009 when we found out that Inés, a Spaniard hwo had settled in Helsinki a few years earlier, wanted an excuse to reincarnate the drummer inside of her. A band was born.

Our music is a combination of stoner rock, doom metal and grunge, and therefore we define our music as "Dungeon".

After playing several gigs at clubs and a few small underground festivals, Gniyrg Gnaarg entered the studio in November 2010 to record their first demo. "From Mother Sun", recorded in November 2010 at the MD-studio in Helsinki, consists of four songs and clocks in at just over 40 minutes. The track list is:
1. Awaiting the Sunlight (10:20)
2. Enter the Dungeon (10:02)
3. Earth Fire (10:56)
4. Big Bang (9:14)

The music of Gniyrg Gnaarg has been heavily influenced by the likes of Black Sabbath (esp. Master of Reality), Kuyss, Electric Wizard, early Nirvana, Alice in Chains, Fu Manchu, Joy Division and several 60/70s hard rock/psychedelic bands.

Leaving Paris

Hangman's Chair is a band from Paris, France. This foursome plays a mix of Stoner Rock, Doom, Sludge, Southern Rock and even Grunge. The album Leaving Paris is their third release. It contains eight great songs that vary from heavy till some more melancholic. The artwork is depressively beautiful. So as the music is on this album.
One final note: The first song begins with a false start. (Sometimes you have that with vinyl!) Enjoy!

Hangman's Chair consists of members of Arkangel and Es La Guerilla but has nothing to do with metalcore, instead they play a sludgy version of Down combined with grunge. The melodic vocals of Cédric Toufouti give more or less the same feeling although the slow music has a slightly sick feeling. This is also visualized by the artwork on 'Leaving Paris'. A guy who cuts his neck with a knife is drawn on the cover.

The song "Breathe Where the Vices Are" has a much more rock attitude than the first two longer tracks "Mourner's Parade" and "Will the Sun Set Today". In the first songs Hangman’s Chair takes the time to build up the tension and finally the band is unleashed. Lots of guitar solos are incorporated in the heavy sound. The style from the first two songs is continued in “Scarlet Star”. Even the atmosphere of the later work of Isis comes to mind. In the short track “A Fix for a Lovely Nod” they return with a rock anthem.

Just after the middle part of the album the band struggles with keeping up the attention span; the song “Spines” could possible be removed making the album eight minutes shorter and more dynamical. Hangman’s Chair is striking back in the last two songs "Paris Spleen Pt. 1" and "Paris Spleen Pt. 2". The band from Paris experiments with the same stoner and sludge elements as Baroness does combined with feedback and an audio sample in “Pt. 1”.

As you can read, diversity is all around on ‘Leaving Paris’ making the record worth to spin it around. For a next record I advice to shorten the long tracks a bit so the listener stays focused with the guitar and vocal driven material.

Still More Serbian Stoner Grunge.

Thanks again to Milos from Fluid Underground for sharing their latest album!
Fluid Underground is a Serbian Stoner Rock/Grunge band. I did earlier post some stuff of them here and here.
Decembar is the second album of this year, so you can say these guys don't like to sit still. The first album of this year called Napad I Prve Noci was already a great recording, but Decembar is nothing less! The song Zlocin ili Kazna could be a tune on the album Through The Eyes Of Heathens by Dozer. If you're familiar with Fluid Underground and you like this band, you don't wanna miss this one. Enjoy!
