Not Much Time To Lose

Birth Of Joy is a power trio from Holland. These guys play a mix of Sixties Rock, Psychedelic Rock, Blues and Grunge. Their main weapon is the incredible Hammond organ. Together with the guitars and drums, they've created an awesome sound. Beside that there are also these great vocals.
Their full length debut called Life In Babalou is an outstanding album with ten songs.
The sound of Birth Of Joy reminds me a lot of another great dutch band named De Wolff.
If you're interested in some more of this fantastic band, then you can stream their same titled EP at their Bandcamp site. Enjoy!

The Pink Alchemist

This is the second album of The Soulbreaker Company, the great Hard Rock/Blues/70's Rock band from Basque Country. This album is in comparison to there debut album Hot Smoke & Heavy Blues a big step forward. The songs are better. The band even dares to use brass horns on some songs. Beside heavy songs there are also some mellow tracks. The Pink Alchemist is a highly recommended album by a great band. They are working now on their third album. For now: Enjoy The Pink Alchemist!

"The Soulbreak Company are the definition of hard rock. A powerful recording where the band show their passion for Led Zeppelin, Groundhogs, Black Sabbath, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Captain Beyond and Mountain."

Hot Smoke & Heavy Blues

I saw this band perform in a local bar called De Vinger yesterday. The Soulbreaker Company is a band from Basque country that plays a combination of Hard Rock, Blues rock and 70's Rock. The show they performed last night was quite impressive. According to their MySpace The Soulbreaker Company is influenced by the following: Led Zeppelin, Raw Material, Bowie, Beatles, Stones ,Gong, Groundhogs, Atomic Rooster, Dixon II, Amon Duul II, Dark, Magna Carta, J. Coltrane, Hawkwind, Beer, Wilson Picket, Raging Slab, Weed, Black Sabbath,Uriah Heep, Mountain, Wine, Pink Floyd, Monster Magnet, Son House, Black Oak Arkansas and Captain Beyond.
The Hammond organ is an important element in their sound. It sometimes reminds me of the band Blood Of The Sun. The Soulbreaker Company is blessed with an awesome singer. You really should listen this great debut album. Enjoy!

Burning Sea Of Green.

This is a real nice birthday present I've got yesterday!
Obskuria is a band with members from several countries. They play some very great Psychedelic music. On their first album Discovery Of Obskuria they played mostly covers in their own way. On the second album Burning Sea Of Green they play songs of their own, except for one cover: Black Magic by Slayer. Obskuria play this song in a very strange version, with the hypnotic singing of Murielle Stadelmann. I never heard a Slayer cover like this! Burning Sea Of Green contains 9 great songs and it goes from mellow to heavy! Obskuria has two singers who has diveded the songs. The last track is Burning Sea Of Green, a nearly 13 minute Psychedelic trip with Muriellle Stadelmann as your personal guide. Burning Sea Of Green is an album you don't want to miss. Enjoy!

"Obskuria is hungry for ultimate satisfaction; feat. members of La Ira De Dios and Dragonwyck, they're best described as burning-heavy-psychedelic tone poetry, the roots of those 'symphonic/orchestrated' poems go back to the early 19th century, when music was intended to inspire listeners and to consider images or moods, not to focus on following traditional patterns -- free form improvisation! All 9 songs, except a Slayer cover of 'Black Magic' (transformed into '60s garage-twist), were cut from instrumental one-take jams; no headphones and all performers incl. amps in one room to feel the unfiltered natural vibes of the magical float, to get inspired in marching to the eternal outer-space-plateau as ONE unit.. it's the culmination of violent but also floating rocksound with truly authentic hard-driven 70s fuzz/space guitar overkills and spheric Hammond Organ layers. Finally two fabulous guest singers (male/female) added super-catchy soulful, haunted and atmospheric vocals. The debut album Discovery Of Obskuria, got lots fabulous and creative reviews in 2008 for their mostly excessive long instrumental space-Kraut excursions -- NOW the 5 Obskurians speeded-up most of their studio-performance with the focus to get more steady hypnotic song orientated (die)-hard-rock-tunes; which ended after cutting them into 3,5 to 5 min format, except the 13 min title track, a multi-climax, which epically expresses thee 'farewell to the American dream ? drifting in the burning sea of green'! Obskuria is inspired by '70s Krautrock, Black Sabbath, Doors, Pink Floyd, Led Zeppelin, Jefferson Airplane, Brainticket, Joe Meek, Spaghetti Western and Slayer. This second album by the intercontinental quintet (Peru, US & Germany) may be seen as a soundtrack-concept-album to express in each song a different scene with an 'abundant' variety of raw energetic beauty plus revolutionary spirit. On low volume it feels like an easy listening album, turning it up it could cause unexpected mind-expansions leading into addiction not many 'modern' rock albums have the potential to bring new outstanding listening dimensions to the true music maniacs and addicts. Obskuria does! 'A new decade of purely emotional, euphoric rock'n'roll has begun to take you back to those days when music still was music!'"

A Swedish Stoner Project.

Revolution Rock is the first full-lenght album of Greenleaf, a side-project of Dozer. This project is one of the best Stoner Rock things I ever heard. An important member is Bengt Bäcke, who plays bass and organ. He also owns the studio where Greenleaf recorded their albums. Tommi Holappa plays his guitar awesomely. (Listen for example to Red Tab, those licks make my flesh creep).
The albums Secret Alphabets and Agents Of Ahriman shows some real progression of this fine Swedish project. Too bad that they only hitted the stage in Sweden. Enjoy!

Hard rocking all the way from beginning to end. This is my first taster of Greenleaf, and I like it. It's super psychedelic at times, other times it's super rocking garage style, like MC5...along those lines. Slight hint of the doom/blues here and there. A good mix of 70's rock styles for sure. "

Hot From The Press.

Almost a year ago I posted a video clip of the Psychedelic Sixties Rockers called DeWolff. At that time these guys were aged 14 - 17. Now a year later these fellows are still quite young.
DeWolff released their full length debut album now. Strange Fruits And Undiscovered Plants is a very great album. It's like the sixties have never been away. The Hammond sounds incredible. The drums are much like Ian Paice style. The guitar is cool, don't expect Heavy Fuzz, but it's still great. You don't think the singer is that young, he has a very grown up voice. All with all a very great album. This is one of the major surprises of 2009.
I'm glad I cought this on vinyl. You should also do that. Enjoy and if you like this stuff, go get yourself one here!

DeWolff is a three-headed rockmonster that crawled right out of the Mississippimud to shake, rattle and roll the world with some raw, psychedelic sixtiesbluesrock. Armed with a screaming Hammond-organ, a muddy, howling guitar, thunderous drums and a soulful voice, these three Wolf men take you back to those wonderful 60’s and 70’s, when bands like Led Zeppelin, Cream, Pink Floyd and Deep Purple ruled the world of rock ‘n’ roll.

DeWolff was founded in 2007 in a town in the Southern part of the Netherlands (Limburg) called Geleen and consists of Pablo van de Poel, brother Luka van de Poel and Robin Piso. On the 5th of July 2008, DeWolff won the final rounds of Kunstbende. DeWolff was the first band in Kunstbende-history on which the jury had no remarks at all!

DeWolff is an absolute live-sensation: their partly-improvised songs sometimes last more than 15 minutes! It’s got style, it plays loud and it plays with soul and passion: that’s DeWolff!

Death Ride

Last week I posted In Blood We Rock from Blood Of The Sun. As comment I got the suggestion from Zodiac Lung to post Death Ride. So I do now. Death Ride is the third album of Blood Of The Sun. Enjoy!

Some bands can't record ordinary or boring albums and the Texans BLOOD OF THE SUN definitely belong to such musicians. 'Death Ride' is their third record, again released through Brainticket Records in 2008 and once again there have been some changes in the line-up. Rhythm guitarist Rich Hurley has been replaced by Eric Schmidt, who's also in Mitra, but the biggest surprise is new entrant Derek St. Holmes, the former singer and rhythm guitarist for Ted Nugent and St. Paradise. Classic songs like 'Stranglehold', 'Cat Scratch Fever' or 'Stormtroopin' wouldn't be so unmistakable without his vocals and he also suits perfectly to the heavy organ-driven sound of BLOOD OF THE SUN. The musical changes keep within a limit, tough in comparison to the previous records 'Death Ride' is in places more funky. That's alright for me, particularly because the entire sound didn't lose anything from its striking heaviness.
'Rise from the Underground' for example is so fat and heavy that it always gives me a goosebumps. Drummer Henry Vasquez is singing this song as well as 'Shine', who knows to convince as he did on the second record 'In Blood We Rock'. The interaction between all musicians is simply perfect and everyone manage to set a course, whereas organist/pianist Dave Grynder's diversified playing is adding the ulimate cut to this thunderous sound. 'Death Ride' is engrained in the 70's, but it never sounds outmoded or antiquated. It's supersaturated with energy and power from the first to the last song. Marvelous! This time BLOOD OF THE SUN have recorded a cover version of Lucifer's Friend's 'Keep Going', which is from their first album. It's redundant to mention that the execution is superb. For me personal this is one of the best albums of 2008 and meanwhile BLOOD OF THE SUN have demonstrated that they are an exceptional band, who rule every stage, too. What for a killer album!

In Blood We Rock

This album is my first meeting with Blood Of The Sun, a Hardrock/Stoner band from Texas, U.S.A. I felt immediately in love with this recording, I think because of the combination of 70's Hardrock with Stoner Rock and the use of the Hammond organ (and electric piano).
This is the second of three albums.
Go listen and you know what I mean.

"The debut was a fine slab of lead weight heavy rock but this album is just in another league!! The real deal when it comes to delivering authentic hard and heavy 70's influenced underground rock! Recorded entirely on ancient analog gear and capturing a raw, earthy sound with monster musicicanship and lead weight heavy rock this will groove your head and soul! Grade "A" quality heavy rock that stands up with Deep Purple (early), Mountain, Dust, Buffalo, Grand Funk, James Gang, Uriah Heep, Bad Company, 70's Pentagram, Atomic Rooster, Bang, Wicked Minds, Spiritual Beggars, Witchcraft etc..."

These Italians take you 40 years back in time.

A while ago I ordered some vinyl stuff at Kozmic Artifactz. This 7" I got as replacement for another item.
Mastica from Italy makes some good Psychedelic Sixties Rock. And when there's a Hammond involved it almost can't go wrong.

Mastica are five heavy psych rockers from the north part of Italy. With a hard and heavy psych sound, derived from the past, Mastica captures attention. They floor the uninitiated with their indisputable musical skills and with songs that are direct and stunning.
Their sound is made using vintage instruments, italian lyrics, vulcanic vocals and a very capable line up, which has recently been improved by the addition of the Hammond organ sound of Apollo (of Link Quartet fame) and by the new guitarist Andrea (Slowtime Mondays). Thanks to their participation in various important international festivals (Euro Ye Ye, Le Beat Bespokè, GoLleida, to name a few) the band have already gotten much attention and gained lots of popularity.

With the last remaining flames of beat and the first hints of hard blues with heavy psych flashes Mastica brings you an incredibly strong and striking 7” single. So lets trip with Uomini and rave to Scemo Chi Spara!

The members of the band:
Matteo Bizzotto (Mad) - bass, vocals
Giovanni Beghetto (Pacio) - drums
Paolo Narduzzo (Paul) - bass, guitar, slide guitar
Andrea Garbo (Garbo) - guitar, talk box, harmonica
Paolo Negri (Apollo) - hammond, clavinet, moog

SPACE DEBRIS: Cool Space Rock From Germany

Space Debris are a german band whose music will transport you back 30 years to the pioneering days of Krautrock and Progressive influenced Psychedelia. Lots of lengthy stretch out guitar jams and an old time organ sound that will make you swoon. Members: Tommy Gorny (guitar, sometimesvocals), Peter Brettel (Bass), Winnie Rimbach-Sator (keyboards) and Christian Jäger (drums). Influences range from Amon Düül and Can on the one hand to a psychedelicious take on the Santana, Allman Brothers, and early Deep Purple stylings. If you like early 70's styled jamming hard prog-psych you'll love this band. The band made since now 4 Vinyls/CD and one DVD/CD, you can all order here (go to button "Vinyl/CDs" at the right) Models were unconsciously Lps and Artwork from the late 60igern and early 70 igern years, as well as German Kraut with long improvisations and spontaneous experiments. In this tradition the LPs are to be seen. It is no coincidence that the plates sounds predominant as from the year 1969, because musical models, old fenderamps, Hammond-organ amplified with marshal and 60`Ludwigdrums, had to lead (and should)to this sound.
(From Space Debris Website)

The download does not contain any complete albums. I'm not allowed to do that, but I want to give you an impression of what Space Debris is all about. From each album you see here you can listen to two songs. At their website you can order the CD's or Vinyl albums.

You have to see this!

DeWolff are three youngsters in age 14-17 and they ROCK! De Wolff creates a 60's/70's sound with only drums, guitar and Hammond organ which reminds of Deep Purple, The Doors and Led Zeppelin. This is a performance in a dutch TV show last week. Their first EP is just released.

This is a review from shinybeast.nl. You can also order their EP here.

CDEP. Psychedelichardgroovin'funkyrock'n'rollin'hotbluesdrivin' hellhoundingsupersweetsixtiesexplosion! DeWolff: a howlin' guitar, a filthy Hammond-organ and steady, groovin' drums. Consisting of INFA's singer-guitarplayer Pablo, his brother Luka on drums and Robin Piso on organ, DeWolff takes you back in time with their raw, bluesy, sixtiesrock. 10- or 20-minute songs? No problemo! They are, after all, influenced by bands like Ten Years After, Cream, Band of Gypsys and The Doors. These 3 experienced stage-animals create pure, raw music; straight outta heart and with passion. DeWolff brings you groovy bellbottom-rock, hellhound-breathtaking bluesrock and even purple-hazey psychedelic love and peace. So take your daily LSD-potion, put on your pink sunglasses, grow your hair and trip that shit with DeWolff!
