End Of Days

Here is an outstanding demo I've found at the Russian Stoner Forum.
From the Russian capital Moscow come a lot of great bands such as Stone Cold Boys, Cactus Jumper, Cosmonauts Day, Dirty Season and Stoner Train.
To this list of bands can be added the name Predicted. This four piece band plays some impressive Stoner Doom with Psychedelic, Sludge and Metal influences. Their demo called Demos From Witch House is decent sounding recording, considering that this is a brand new band.
This demo contains five awesome tracks that are asking for a sequel. And I'm looking forward to that next recording. Highly Recommended! Enjoy!

No Turning Back

From Budapest, Hungary comes the new band Head For The Sun. This four piece band plays Stoner Rock with Sludgy influences.
Their EP four track Live At Hungarian StonerRockBlog 3rd Birthday Fuzztival is a nice sounding piece of work. The guitar produces some great heavy riffs, the bass and drums are quite pounding and the vocals are very good.
Head For The Sun shows with this EP their capabilities. I think there's a great future for this band. I look forward to the next release. Enjoy!

Head For The Sun was formed in October, 2011, in Budapest, Hungary. In december we got a chance to record our concert for almost free,
So we did it, however at that time we had been playing together only 2 months.
Fortunately the songs come easy for our songwriter, Rico (who is a blogger at Stoner Rock Blog Hungary).

Coffin Cross

Early november I posted an article about the upcoming album Within The Witch by the New Zealand band Stone Angels with the singer Steven Bell of the band Second Gear Grind.
Well, here is that album! Within The Witch is an album with seven Sludge songs with Doom, Metal and Black influences. The music of Stone Angels is utterly heavy and rude. The riffs and rhythms are filthy and brutal.
The vocals and screams are fitting well in the sound and are very impressive. Steven Bell does show a total other side of himself compared with the work he has done with Second Gear Grind.
Within The Witch is an album that for sure will be appreciated by folks who are really into Heavy.
If you like a physical copy, send an email to the following address: cage_of_nails@hotmail.com (This is also the address for their PayPal account). Enjoy!

Paths Of The Restless

The following contribution was brought to me by Dmitriy from the band Cosmonauts Day.
2011 is nearing it's end, and BANG! There is this stunning album that can be counted as one of the best of this year!
Cosmonauts Day from Moscow, Russia is a four piece band that plays outstanding Post Rock/Metal with Sludge and Space influences.
This band has released their Live Demo EP in may and now they're back with their full-length album called Paths Of The Restless. This eight track album is definitely an impressive masterpiece. The musicians do a great job with their instruments. Thereby is the sound of this album very good.
All of the songs of this album are great, but if I have to pinpoint some highlights, then I have to say it are the songs Captain, Rift, Satellite and The Great Disease.
Support this band by spending some money on their Bandcamp page!

Connoisseur II And The Hit Joint Sessions

Almost two years ago I've posted the album Connoiseur by the band Mountains Of Blow.
Now is this band from Los Angeles back with two simultaneously released free download albums called Connoisseur II and The Hit Joint Sessions. Musically seen are these albums a continuation of what they've done on the first one. It is Sludge and Metal influenced Heavy Rock music with again great repetitive riffs and rhytms.
A new thing is the addition of vocals. The album Connoisseur II is with exception of the song Matrix (Blue) almost completely instrumental, but almost all the songs from the album The Hit Joint Sessions are with vocals.
These vocals sounds great and are a welcome addition to their music. It makes it more complete.
So it is fair to say that Mountains Of Blow has grown and these new albums are a proof of that. Enjoy!

Mountains of Blow (named after a Ghostface Killah lyric) was formed in Los Angeles during May of 2009 by Shane Berman and Bill Hawken after their former band Exoneration broke up due to unforseen circumstances.

MOB played several shows as a free-form jam, guitar-and-drums duo with no set songs. Continuing with this set-up, the group released the self-recorded 'Connoisseur' album, comprised of 4 free form jams which were met with positive reviews from several stoner metal sites. Around this time, close friend and former Moment of Youth bandmate James O'Mara began jamming with the group and eventually joined on bass.

The band then wrote many songs and proceded to play all over LA on a regular basis throughout the rest of 2009 and 2010. However, this incarnation of the band began to dissolve and played it's last show opening up for Torche at the Bootleg Theater in Echo Park. Before completely disbanding, an 8-song recording was completed in 10 hours at the Hit Joint Studios in Silverlake, Los Angeles.

After the departure of James O'Mara on bass, Shane & Bill continued jamming once again and came up with what would become Connoisseur II. 5 tracks of mostly instrumental jams recorded at their home studio in Silverlake.

Soil Sacrifice

This is yet another fantastic free download Bandcamp discovery!
From Tampere, Finland come the one-man project Consciousness Removal Project by Antti Loponen.
This guy plays impressive Post-Metal with Sludge influences. The album The Last Season is an atmospheric masterpiece. This album contains five amazing tracks that display great musical capabilities.
Antti Loponen had some help with this album of several musicians. Whereby I especially was touched by the violin in the songs Soil Sacrifice and Kyoto.
The Post-Rock genre is in general instrumental music. That is not the case with this project. Antti shows some great vocals, from clean to scream, it sounds awesome.
So The Last Season is for sure a need-to-hear album! Enjoy!

CONSCIOUSNESS REMOVAL PROJECT is a one-man post-metal band from Tampere, Finland. Its only official member Antti Loponen is solely responsible not only for compositions, lyrics and arrangements but also for most instruments and the record production. With the help of a live collective, Consciousness Removal Project has also been able to perform live since 2008.

The music of Consciousness Removal Project has been published on the internet for free since 2004. The style has evolved from guitar-based instrumental rock/ambient towards a post-metallish direction and vocals have been added into the equation. The 2011 album "The Last Season" was also released as a limited-edition CD Digipack.

Head Of The Demon

This awesome piece of heaviness called Head Of The Demon was releseased in 2009 by the band Tank Destroyer. This band from Columbus, Ohio plays stunning and heavy Stoner/Doom Metal with obvious Sludge influences.
Tank Destroyer is according to their Facebook page inspired by: Black Sabbath, YOB, Boris, Deep Purple, Pentagram and Sleep.
This album is the only release by this band so far and a new album is scheduled for 2012.
Head Of The Demon is an album with eight superb songs, that together last for almost an hour. The sound of this album is very good. So what more do you want? Enjoy!

Justin, Chris, Dan, Ben, and Michael formed Tank destroyer in July/August of 2008. Recording and playing live commenced soon after. Within The Witch

Stone Angels is the new band of Steven Bell from the New Zealand band Second Gear Grind. Stone Angels will release their debut album called Within The Witch early december. The album will be presented at the NZ's Stonerfest '11 among several other heavy bands.
For now is an unmastered version of the titlesong Within The Witch available as free download.
Where Second Gear Grind plays pure Stoner Rock, has Stone Angels also more Sludge, Doom and Metal influences. Within The Witch is a song that has made quite an impression on me. It is a lot heavier than any Second Gear Grind song.
If the song Within The Witch is the standard for the upcoming album, then I'm very eager to get that album. Enjoy!

Broken Flowers

Thanks to Zero Nowhere for sharing his two EP's!
Zero Nowhere is a one-man Post Rock project from Lublin, Poland. His music sounds in my opinion similar to bands like Pelican and Red Sparowes, but there is more than just that. There are also some Sludge and Stoner influences present in his music.
The atrabilious and dejected atmosphere is in a great way propagated on these EP's. The first EP Floriculture contains six tracks and the second EP Flower Of Void contains one twenty minutes lasting track.
I'm pretty impressed of what this guy has acomplished on his own. These EP's are really great! The highlight for me is the triptych of the Floriculture EP called Portraits (I - Soul Dealer II - Dancing Trees III - The Fog).
When you read the bio below, you will see that this guy is capable of a lot. Enjoy!

So i'm a 21 year old musician from Lublin, Poland. I started making music as Zero Nowhere in 2008. It's a instrumental solo project, all music on these EP's was written & recorded by myself. I have also older EP called "Witchcraft" and a compilation of some of my older songs with some unreleased material called "Whispers Of Shooting Stars" which was released by Dairyola Records. Also Floriculture was released on limited CD-r edition on Kitty On Fire records. My name was taken from an Eyehategod song. I'm playing mix of stoner, psychedelic and sludge music with some drone and experimental elements. My biggest influences are stoner / psychedelic and drone bands like Dead Meadow, Yawning Man, Earth or Electric Wizard as well as sludge bands like Eyehategod or Buzzoven. I play also in some other various projects like a sludge / stoner metal project named Eyes Like Halogen with vocalist of Cerber, psychedelic and experimental band named Flora and my own drone project called Golden Cloud. I'm also planning to make some sludge band in future, as well as release some more experimental psychedelic rock material with vocals under the name Black Sunflowers.

Voodoom Creatures

The next band contribution comes from Kentucky, U.S.A.
They Yearn For What They Fear is a bass and drum duo that plays Experimental Psychedelic Sludge/Doom. Their EP called The Infernal Plains contains four awesome songs. These guys claim that their sound is akin to bands like Moloch, Thou, Earthless, Electric Wizard, Torche and Earth, to give you a small idea of what They Yearn For What They Fear is about.
The sound of this duo is as expected heavy and brutal. The vocals sound very angry and dejected.
At some parts in their music there is also guitar and keyboards present. These additional musicians makes the sound of The Infernal Plains more complete. Enjoy!

Around since 2005ish, They Yearn For What They Fear started as a wall-of-noise grind unit, and while they can definitely still tap into all the rage of speed, they've become incredibly dynamic in their sound and tone while never sacrificing heaviness or their own brand of apocalyptic psychedelia. They are hard at work crafting a sonic tome worthy of their name, as well as split releases of all varieties (and hopefully a re-release of their lone testament to their ultra-violent roots, The Art of Communication via Concentric in the near future).

Time Heals No Wounds

This heavy contribution comes from Columbus, Ohio, USA.
Traitors Return To Earth is a four piece band that plays Sludge/Stoner/Doom with Psychedelic tendencies. The purpose of this band is to play the heaviest music ever possible and to play it loud as hell! Well, Traitors Return To Earth did succeed on that mission. Their EP Smoke Screen is an example of sheer heaviness. The guitars sounds awesome, the drums and bass are pounding and droning. And there are these vocals, these screams make the sound of Traitors Return To Earth complete.
Smoke Screen is an awesome EP that will for sure be appreciated by those who adore bands like Sleep, High On Fire, Yob and Electric Wizard. Enjoy!

Traitors Return to Earth formed in July of 2010 for one reason and one
reason only, that is to play the heaviest music possible at the most
unreasonable volumes. The band is influenced heavily by Sleep,
Electric Wizard, High on Fire, YOB, Sons of Otis, Weedeater and many
more. In August of 2011 they released their EP titled “Smoke screen”.
The EP was recorded, mixed and mastered by Brian Samakis in March and
April of 2011. Since the completion of the EP Scott Simmons has
decided to depart from the band to peruse other interests.

Band line until release of EP:

Chris Sherrod- Vocals
Kevin Masters- Guitars

Visual Violence

Do you remember that Argentinian Sludge/Stoner/Doom duo Cabrocordero? I've posted their debut EP about a year ago here.
Now this bass and drum sensation is back with their full-length album called Namastie Qoh. This album is a continuation of what they have done on the EP Ofrenda Inicial. The result is an awesome album that is full of heavy tunes. The bass sounds like a mean roaring beast, the drummer plays some great rhythms and the vocals are an impressive topping on the instrumental part. The album Namastie Qoh is all with all an excellent return of the band Cabrocordero! Enjoy!

Recorded at the Abasto, with the production of Topo Armetta (Dragonauta, 8Hands for Kali, Los Natas) and released under the independent label the band of The Ancient Records.
The 9 tracks goes through to ultra speed a blend of alternative and classics metals translated from a bass & drums, with spiritual, transcendental and realistic lyrics.

An Awesome Collaboration

Here is the second split by the bands Unearthly Trance and Suma and it is released by Throne Records. This is collaboration in the purest form. Side A is the track Sleepwalking Through A Maze by Unearthly Trance, but in fact it is the musicians of Suma with the singer of Unearthly Trance.
With the tracks Six Months Of Treatment and Victim No. 581 on side B it is vice versa; the musicians of Unearthly Trance with the singer of Suma.
The result of this collaboration is awesome! These three tracks are a fine display of outstanding and heavy Stoner/Sludge/Doom. When you order this piece of vinyl, then you also get the CD as bonus! Enjoy!

"Spawned loosely from the mysterious lore of the CIA black operation known as Project MKULTRA, Unearthly Trance and Suma tracks on Collaboration features the other band's vocalist along with some additional noise. "Sleepwalking Through a Maze" consists of music that Suma recorded in Malmo and sent to Ryan Lipynsky in Brooklyn where he recorded his vocals. Unearthly Trance tracked their music for "Victim No. 581" in NYC which was then sent to Jovan where he promptly returned the track back with his vocals and additional sounds. The other track "Month of Treatment" is a harsh noise track that each Unearthly Trance member recorded a "layer" and then sent to Suma. Jovan tracked his voice and more noise was conjured up in Sweden. Unearthly Trance members Jay Newman and Ryan mixed and mastered the songs respectively."

Kissing The Void

The following band contribution comes from the North of France.
Oruga is a five-piece band and they exist about one year. So it is pretty impressive that they come up with such an EP in that short time! Oruga plays a combination of Sludge and Doom with Metal influences, or Slow Rock, as they call it themselves.
This 34 minutes lasting five track EP is a stunning piece of work. The guitars are presenting slow and heavy riffs, the bass and drums are droning and the vocals fit right into this music. Oruga is a band with a lot of potential and I look forward to the following releases of this awesome band! Enjoy!

Born from random encounters and the will to explore a style not well known in France, Oruga was formed early in 2010. Claiming no labels, but forged from the individual experiences of each individual musician, the band deeply allies the oppressive heaviness of Doom and the filthy rage of Sludge, aggressively impregnated with Metal, all melting into the hypnotic dynamics of Stoner. Never pretending to be revolutionary, the songs are merely performed with heart and guts. Bare-naked expressions of untold feelings and repressed frustrations, escape in a voice about to break, the sorrows of Oruga explode onto the heavy rhythm, emphasized by mighty riffs, unpolished, noisy, massive, raw and desperate. Floating as a cold and melancholic spirit, far away from affiliations and merchandising, the sound of Oruga mirrors their region of origin, the North of France: faithful and authentic.

Serial Killers Are Fuckin' Mean

Two months ago I've posted the the Brutal Demos by Brutal Nun.
The ones who have enjoyed this one will certainly be pleased with their new EP Pyroderma Gangrenosum. This EP is a continuation of their sound that was displayed on the Brutal Demos.
So get ready for a nice combination of Stoner, Sludge, Doom, Metal, Psychedelic, Punk and Noise. The EP Pyroderma Gangrenosum is an excellent display of heaviness. Enjoy!

Thousand Codes - A Womb For Horus

Thousand Codes is a four piece band from Nantes, France, that says they play Post Stoner. What I actually hear in their music is a combination of Stoner Rock, Sludge and Doom.
These guys recently released their four track EP A Womb For Horus. This EP is really a nice one. Thousand Codes plays their songs with a lot of conviction.
What I especially like about this band are the vocals, but the musicians must not be forgotten. These guys have absolutely done a great performance on this EP.
The EP A Womb For Horus costs just five Euros. I tell you, it is your money well spend!

The story of THOUSAND CODES started in 2010 when three close friends from Nantes, each having varied musical backgrounds, made up their mind to become a band to share their passion for rock music and whose rallying point would be stoner-rock.
Soon after, they were joined by a fourth member sharing the same passion and enthusiasm.

THOUSAND CODES was born...

A few months later, the band decided to move forward and recorded its first EP with the first four songs they had written.

Today the band is driven by the same crave for gigs and decibels.

The Evil Of Good

Cultura Tres is a band from Maracay, Venezuela. This foursome plays Stoner/Sludge/Doom Metal, where the emphasis is quite focused on (Death) Metal. Their sound contains also a bit Post Rock.
Their debut album La Cura did cause quite a worldwide buzz. Now Cultura Tres is back with their new album El Mal Del Bien. This album is again full of heavy riffs and thundering bass and drums that are finished with that great vocals.
To give you an idea what this is about: Cultura Tres is according to their Facebook page influenced by the following bands: Black Sabbath, Pestilence, Sepultura, Gorefest, Fabulosos Cadillacs, Silvio Rodriguez, Slayer, Obituary, Godspeed You Black Emperor, Mars Volta, Iron Butterfly, Astor Piazzola, Entombed, Neurosis and Los Natas.
This is a list of rather different names and styles, but it does cover what Cultura Tres stands for. This album contains also an excellent cover of the song Black Sabbath. Enjoy!

Now hailed as the national rock/sludge pride of Venezuela, Cultura Tres came from far. With the first EP "Seis" (2007) the band already outgrew the South American continent. But only after releasing debut album "La Cura" in October 2008, the band started to get noticed worldwide. During the preceding year of rigorous composing, Cultura Tres incorporated many influences into their sound, ranging from sludge to doom metal and from death metal to classic rock.
Important magazines in Europe and Japan praised “La Cura” for its dark and original music, and Metal Hammer magazine even selected Cultura Tres as the month's global discovery. The release tour took the band for 18 months across Europe, South America and to the first well-received shows in Japan. During that period the band also released three video clips that gained them a world-wide cult following in the underground doom & sludge scene (for example being featured band on Doom Metal Alliance, Stonerrock.com and HeavyPlanet.com).

In the summer of 2010 the members locked themselves up in the studio to prepare the second album: “El Mal del Bien”. The result is - in the band members’ own words - “an album with a single clear direction”. Cultura Tres delves deeper into the dark atmospheric vein that already showed itself at moments in debut album La Cura. The daring album opener “Propiedad de Dios” sets the mood: it sounds like the soundtrack of a tragic cult movie. The songs that follow evoke the witchery, slavery, oppression and religious madness that influence the South American continent to this day. Being a concept album adds another dimension to the individual songs. A patient listener will be dragged into a hallucinating trip around the insane world the album paints.
Interestingly, the band has chosen to cover what might well be the first doom track in South America: “Holy Graveyard” (1992) by Epitafio. Alejandro Londoño, having been a member of this band in the past, has now fully closed the circle. Cultura Tres is living proof that the genre of doom/sludge was not dead in South America but merely dormant. Now it has woken again, not only speaking Spanish, but more importantly, with its own face.

El Mal del Bien will be released on vinyl in March 2011, with a tour that will hit Venezuela, Argentina, Chile, Uruguay, Colombia, Europe and Japan. Don't miss this chance to hear the new sound of South American sludge!

Cross The Skull River

Thanks Gloria from the band A Very Old Ghost Behind The Farm for sharing their album!
From Toulouse, France comes the band with the odd name A Very Old Ghost Behind The Farm. This foursome plays some incredible Stoner/Sludge/Doom Metal. The songs on their debut album Primary Septagon are a paragon of heaviness! These tunes has everything it needs: Awesome guitars, very great vocals and heavily pounding bass and drums.
The songs themselves are very strong compositions. Needless to say that we are dealing with a masterpiece! Enjoy!

Formed in 2009, A VERY OLD GHOST BEHIND THE FARM is based on a visceral desire to break down barriers between doom, sludge, blackened metal, stoner and crust. You will find in this mass grave the scattered remains of a moribund Black Sabbath, some putrefying limbs of Acid Bath and the emaciated corpse of Khanate violating the consanguineous carcasses of Eyehategod and Crowbar.

"The result is ranging from thrilling mid-tempo doomed anthems and some bastard up- tempo savage straight-in-your-face aggression.” — Doom-Metal.com
"The songs have the typical occult edge you expect from so many doom bands these days but they are constantly throwing you a curve-ball...” — Doommantia
"All that sticks to your skin, whether in heavy "doomesque" shipments or with more speed tempos of a disturbed Southern rock ..." - Pavillon 666

After the release of an EP, then a debut album, "Primary Septagon", acclaimed by the critics, and concerts with bands like Coliseum (U.S.), Drawers (FR) and Dwail (FR), the Old Ghost is ready to come back on stage.
The band is opened to any proposal for concert / festival in France.

Sometimes shall you hear the voices of very ancient ghosts.
Sometimes shall you feel the touch of some diabolic spell.
Sometimes shall you behold what hides behind the farm.

Look Mom! I Made A Death Machine

This EP was submitted by Keeran of the band Thorun!
Thorun is a four headed band from Cardiff, Wales. This band plays some very nice instrumental Stoner/Sludge with Doom and Metal influences. This free download EP is a reissue of the Thorun EP of 2010.
Thorun's music can be described as heavy and lumpish. This EP sounds truly awesome. The guitar riffs are great and the drums and bass beech nicely aggressive.
So if you're ready for some instrumental violence, this is your chance! Enjoy!

Thorun was born (prematurely) in early 2010 as two well-travelled, axe wielding Caerphilly idiots decided to “start a new band” after the fall of Cardiff based noise makers Circa Regna Tonat left Jonny without a creative home. With phase one complete Keeran and Jonny set out to find a rhythm section. After some over zealous forum posting and a bit of begging they found Mike and Neal ‘Chest’ and thus the two piece became a four. The band agreed on one thing….”it has to be slow, loud and a bit like Electric Wizard but without the vocals cause we don’t have a singer!” Things moved quickly as ideas turned in to riffs, riffs in to songs and songs in to more songs until the band had enough material to record a 5 track EP/Demo that they decided to give away over the magical intermaweb as a free download. Thorun are now playing live shows at a crap hole near you!

Projeto Trator

These two EP's were shared with me by Thiago from the band Projeto Trator!
Projeto Trator is a duo from São Paulo, Brazil. They play very nice Stoner/Sludge with here and there some catchy tunes. These guys do an excellent job on these EP's! Their sound is very solid and heavy. The guitar sound of Paulo is awesome and Thiago is more than a good drummer. Beside handling the guitar, Paulo is also responsible for the great vocals.
There are a lot of great Brazilian Stoner bands out there and Projeto Trator is for sure one of them. Enjoy!

Two and a half years after the release of the EP ”A Bombástica Barafunda do Batizado” in 2007, the paulistan duo, Projeto Trator, releases another bomb, while finishing touches on their first full album, the EP “O Caldo Vai Azedar”.

Rubber riffs, truants, bad mood, gambling, black coffee, cool people, youngsters wrath and grindhouse movies, all of these come together to form this petard, with the guttural appearances of Clayton Freres (Umbilichaos) and Dom Orione (Superduo), also featuring the magisterial art of Fernando Chamarelli on the cover.

Four songs written by the band itself, produced on the studio Papiris (SP), couting on Caio Monfort e Mr. Batata for technical support. If you like that fat peace of greasy bacon on the last corner of the tavern window and young and noisy music, guarantee yours as soon as possible, before the broth sour completely.
